Darlyne Chauve was born to a family of artists with her greatest influence and inspiration being her father, artist Lionel Chauve. As a child, Darlyne would spend days in her father’s studio painting and creating. As an adult, Darlyne spent many months in a small town called Tourette in Provence, France, studying with artist sculptor Fortune Evengeliste. She also attended the Parsons School of Design in NYC and the International School of Art in Todi, Italy. However, Darlyne always returned to her father’s studio where she would find peace and solace in the beauty of his oil paints. After her father passed away, she inherited her father’s paint brushes and paints. In his memory, she continues to paint with oils, mixed media and textures. Today, his works hang in her homes and studio in his honor.
Darlyne spends part of the year in her home in France, where she has recently built a studio with Moroccan and North African influences. It is only in France that she sculpts with metals and entices different mediums. “I am inspired by the light. The light is beautiful in this region; it comes alive and speaks to you through the wind known as the Mistral, the breeze and the June bugs, the aroma of lavender, rosemary, and thyme… only found in Provence. It is here my creativity always takes on a different life.”
Fall arrives and Darlyne returns to Miami where she has transformed a 7,500 square foot warehouse into a loft studio allowing her the freedom to paint large 15 foot pieces. It is the fire of Miami, which evokes bold strokes of color and emotion in her work. Her work is abstract conceptual and sometimes touches on the figurative. Painting with multiple layers of oil and mixed mediums, each with its own story and secret. It is this duality of existence that brings innate depth and dimension to her work.
In the summer of 2005, Darlyne had a two-month exhibit at the Henry Clews Foundation Museum in the C.hateau de La Napoule, France. It was her first international museum exhibit.
